Melanie Miller studied at the Cape Town Technical College obtaining a diploma in Art.
She painted initially on fabric, and then introduced painting on
pottery to her oeuvre. Amongst her works were table cloths, sold widely
in Cape Town.
After some four years of painting on fabric, she decided to change to
the medium of canvas, where she felt immediately at home, being able to
express herself more freely and create expressionistic, colourful works
of art.
In 1999, Melanie relocated to Sydney where she was encouraged by a
highly acclaimed artist from South Africa, Eileen Rogoff, who had
recently emigrated herself. In 2003 & 2004 Melanie exhibited at six
exhibitions including two galleries, selling all of her portfolio. She
was further guided by Anette Pringle, a renowned Australian mentor and
artist, in exploring the tapestry of abstract together with textured
finishes.
Combining bright colours and abstract forms with newly perfected
textured finishes, her paintings have attracted buyers from many
countries, including the USA, South Africa and Europe. |
